When doing a good job is enough

Pam-OliverLast year it was reported that Pam Oliver would no longer be the sideline reporter for Fox Sport’s A team and would spend her final season, her 20th year, on the sidelines with the B team. (See: Handling Change with Grace….) Lo and behold, Fox Sports has had a change of heart and will be bringing her back for 2 more seasons with the B team. That’s good news for those of us who think she is one of the best at what she does. She is less annoying than most of the others and doesn’t seem to be an intrusion on players and coaches as so many of them are. Just goes to show you that even when you’re demoted, doing a good job still pays off in the end. In this case, she gets to continue to do what she loves doing the most. For some of us, the satisfaction may be as simple as living up to our own work standards and ethics. Either way, it is best not to have an emotional reaction such as saying “I’m just gonna show up at work and they better not ask me to do anything anymore.” Slight exaggeration, but you get the point. You never really know what can happen.  At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if she made it back to the A team.
